We use MIP Fund Accounting, not only for our daily operations, but for payroll and human resources. We utilize most of the functions offered with the software and find that they are user friendly. MIP Fund Accounting is easy for even our newest employees to understand. This software is a huge assist to our company. When an issue arises we contact MIP support and have an answer in a short amount of time. The staff is very friendly and professional.
  • Allowing reports to be exported into a PDF or Excel worksheet is very beneficial when presenting to our board.
  • Emailing a report to a funding source without having to print it out and scan is very smooth and helps when you are in a hurry.
  • The ability to filter for the exact item(s) that you need help when auditors need verification of those exact details. This is valuable for helping our department locate those areas that need explanation as well.
  • The ability to set dates in the organization preferences so that others do not enter a wrong date by accident.
  • It would be helpful to locate an item when we are given a check number rather than the name on the check.
  • When we process our payroll we have to manually remove extra coding so that our salaries are not all over the general ledger. It would be nice if there were a better way for this function to be eliminated.
  • It would be great if the process for using Atrix was smoother. We have issues almost every year for one reason or another.
MIP works great for a non-profit organization. The financial reports are easy to access and help show what is required in the non-profit world. The Journal voucher process and checks are really good. The overall ease of using MIP is a great help throughout the organization. The community responses are helpful when you need additional guidance and MIP representatives are very helpful when you need more input.

MIP Fund Accounting has brought us into the 21st century! Not only is the accounting module intuitive and user friendly, but the way it integrates with the other modules has streamlined many of our processes with Purchasing, Inventory, Ordering, Payroll, and even HR. It's well worth the investment for an efficient work environment.
  • Intuitive
  • User Friendly
  • Descriptive Set Up
  • HR Mod needs a facelift (I know it's coming!)
  • Better Training materials.
As a bigger organization with very antiquated software going into the transition, the setup with MIP Fund Accounting has been grueling. We also have more exceptions than rules - so while I'm happy for the transition, we weren't ready for the amount of work it took.

We use MIP Fund Accounting for all of our accounting functions. We pay bills and receive funds through it. We also track fixed assets and our purchases through MIP Fund Accounting. W2, 1095, 1099 are all produced as well as our payroll operations for the company. We do not currently use the program for HR functions, but our HR does use the payroll module for the work they need to do. MIP Fund Accounting helps us to retain all of our information in one place. Before the company used ledger books to attempt to keep up and it did not go well.
  • Easy to access data from any previous year.
  • The system is quick with inputs of information, no lag.
  • It really makes tracking of expenses much easier with PO module.
  • Payroll input is quick as easy.
  • With the payroll process, if there is an error in sending the stubs through email, there is no option to resend without a restore. That really needs to change.
  • Being able to void encumbrance at the same time as a PO would be an incredible time saver.
  • When processing W2 the system deletes info.
MIP Fund Accounting is well suited to any company that has multiple funding sources and expenses that they need to keep a close track on. In non-profit organizations we are looked at closely and it is important to be able to accurately show where our revenue comes from and where it is going. MIP Fund Accounting can handle that easily. It is not a system I would recommend to a small business as there are so many features that they would not need for the cost to them, at least not the versions we use.

I use MIP Fund Accounting to process accounts payable, journal entries, generate vendor and payroll reports. We are nonprofit for workforce development; we sponsor our clients with short training and financial help to pay for training expenses. MIP allows me to run reports to see the exact amount that we have spent on each client. In the past this was an issue being able to get the total money spent on a specific client or grant, with MIP it is easy and user friendly to run a report to get this information.
  • Accounts Payable
  • Accounts Receivable
  • Journal entries
  • Processing Payroll using HR Management and EWS
  • End of the year W-2's and W-9's
  • Building Reports
  • to be able to process more personalize reports to generate information
When processing AP, the program settings are easy to follow for data entry. Same thing with processing Journal Entries

When Building reports, is not very using friendly but it is not impossible either. It just takes a while to get the system to do or process the report using the correct fields.

We use the MIP accounting system to record items in the general ledger - accounts payable and receivables - to form financial statements. Enter journal entries - cash receipts/disbursements. We enter all assets. At the end of the month, prepare the depreciation. We join the payroll from ADP into MIP through the GL interface, a very reliable system.
  • Easy to do journal entries.
  • Easy to pay bills.
  • Easy to enter assets.
  • Would like to see a preview of entries in the bank reconciliation before posting.
MIP is suited for preparing financials and making it easy to see the financial outcome the way you want. It is not fit for the bank reconciliation module - I would like to see how it will pan out in the reconciliation before posting it.

MIP Fund Accounting is used by the whole organization for department and overall reporting as well as compliance reporting. It was purchased to allow for reporting by cost allocation to multiple cost centers, including both internal departments and grants. The major benefit is that it allows a large number and multiple levels of cost centers and programs.
  • Cost allocation. Allows great flexibility in the setup of cost pools and receipient centers.
  • Multiple dimension coding structure. Allows complex accounting setups for multi-faceted organizations.
  • Reporting. Allows many different report configurations.
  • Exporting. Ease of exporting reports to PDF and Excel formats.
  • Importing. We now import payroll files from a payroll provider.
  • Bank reconciliation. Exceptionally outdated and inefficient process for clearing checks.
  • Accounts payable. New vendor setup process could be so much easier, especially for vendors who are already employees.
  • Credit card puchases. Badly needs improved functionality in the posting of transactions to actual vendors.
  • The import process needs to be made more intuitive.
Do you need a lot of cost centers and coding dimensions? MIP Fund Accounting does this well.

MIP Fund Accounting assists our organization in tracking and managing expenses and receivables on a daily basis. MIP assists us in tracking our open receivables with the very useful A/R aging reports. On the Payables side we create and send out a decent number of checks to pay invoices each month and the system assist us in tracking and maintaining that AP activity. We also rely heavily on the A/P aging reports for tracking. The bank reconciliation module is also a great tool that we use to track our bank activity. Especially with the growing number of electronic fund transfer transactions.
  • Bank Reconciliations
  • Invoice Processing
  • A/R aging and tracking
  • Check printing settings
  • Graph and Chart Options
  • ADP data import
Well suited for everyday Journal Entries, Invoice entries and check processing. As the volume is increasing in the number of POs and invoices, we are processing on a monthly basis. It would be a huge help if we could connect to vendors electronically so that POs and Invoices could be automatically uploaded or scanned into the system. I would like to see improvements in the reports available including chart and graph options.

MIP Fund Accounting is our Accounting system for 5 different funds. We use the GL and AP modules, with plans to use Fixed Assets and AR modules in the very near future. We have a third party payroll vendor, but have been able to use the Import feature of JEs to assist with monthly payroll activity.
  • Importing JEs
  • Importing Invoices
  • Review of TB with non-posted JEs
  • Cannot use the drill down function (in reports such as TB, FS) in Modern MIP.
  • Ability to run GL reports that have option to include check #s
  • Make report options easier to under - i.e. matching document # and document #
  • Ability to import cash receipts
I like the ability to run reports for one fund or multiple funds, the ability to use different checking accounts to pay invoices for different funds. The importing process has made month-end close much easier, except for the ability to import cash receipts. We have a template to import cash receipts, but it is too time-consuming to format the Excel template to allow for ease of importing.

I use it to input all financial data and to prepare month and year-end financial reports
  • Reporting capabilities
  • Providing necessary fields for inputting data
  • Ability to upload documents
  • Opening transactions that have already been posted
  • MIP Cloud has lots of glitches that make it frustrating to use
MIP is suitable because it has great reporting capability and we are easily able to track grants with it. I have no issues with the classic module but the cloud module is very glitchy - transactions get posted duplicate same with check runs I have had to call support multiple times because of issues in the cloud environment.

We use MIP Fund Accounting for our organization's accounting record keeping. Including, but not limited to, manager reports, payroll imports, accounts receivable and payable and budgeting. It runs seamlessly with our hourly time reporting software.
  • Reporting formats
  • Original budgets
  • Accounts Payable
  • Some reports have glitches that I've submitted as issues but were never addressed.
  • Accounts Receivable platform sometimes has issues with reversing and reposting entries.
  • Budgets could be more user friendly when entering or making changes.
During our annual audits sometimes they ask for specific or new reports that I am able to easily build and quickly run for them. We purchased the fixed assets platform years ago and my coworker who tried to set it up and use it eventually gave up trying to make it work. That was also the case for the encumbrance module with a different coworker.

Abila MIP is a great accounting software program if you work in the FQHC world or where you have a ton of grants you have to keep track of. We use MIP to do our Budgets, Fixed Assets, Payables, GL, and Bank Reconciliations. We use Microix to link our payroll and PO Module to this system which makes it seamless. This program allows me to track my grants many ways so I stay compliant with the Federal Government. The system is easy to use and allows me to even scan in documents like invoices so I can retrieve them later on. This is just a really good system when set up and trained properly on it.
  • Fixed Asset Tracking
  • Tracking of Grants
  • Scanning in of documents
  • Budgeting
  • Can Improve on making the upload feature easier.
  • Needs to promote their stats function better
  • Having a built in payroll module would be nice as well.
I would recommend MIP to people working in the FQHC world as this system allows for you to track everything you need to pull financial reports out for HRSA and other government agencies. This software when set up correctly can also track your grants very well, help complete Table 8 of the UDS report, and does a great job for budgeting as well. The only knock on this program is creating upload files as it seems more complex than it needs to be.

We are a non-profit membership association that also receives federal funding for training grants. We use MIP for the accounting of all functions of our organization, but it is most useful in the tracking of the seven different grants we currently have.
  • Allows for the separate tracking of funds
  • Great detailed reporting
  • Has been able to integrate additional modules for different organizations as they need them
  • Cumbersome in entering all the detail, but steps have been continuously made to improve efficiencies
  • Drill down of reporting
  • Reports are customizable, yet formatting is not helpful when you transfer to Excel
Hard question to answer. Currently, MIP is well suited for my organization in being able to track our grants by separate funding sources, yet fluid enough to let me determine the reports I need to prepare as an individual or for the entire organization as a whole.

MIP is currently being utilized by the finance department to facilitate the day to day accounting needs of the organization. It helps the organization address our fund accounting needs in addition to fostering an environment of proper nonprofit accounting and reporting. MIP is currently being used for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Journal Voucher Transactions, an other day to day accounting needs.
  • The flexibility of the segmented chart of accounts allow for the user to design the chart of accounts based on the organization needs. A well designed chart of accounts allow for reliable reports with detailed cost structures to track and analyze multiple funding sources.
  • The importing features allow for very efficient entries of high volume journal entries and minimize mistakes.
  • The system itself is very user friendly and the design/layout of the system is highly intuitive.
  • The reporting features can use some improvements for ease of use and more functionality.
  • I feel that if Drillpoint reports can be integrated with the Scheduler Module, it would make reporting and data manipulation even better.
  • Some improvements within the budgeting module is also highly desirable.
I believe MIP is suited for organizations that have complex funding structures. Especially those organizations who have multiple funding sources with agencies that require different expense categories to ensure expenses are properly classified. I think MIP is not appropriate for small organizations whose chart of accounts may be less complex in addition to a lower operating budget.

MIP Fund Accounting is our accounting system of record for recording transactions for GAAP compliance and used for day-to-day accounting / business operations. It is also used to access data for reporting for either actual data or projection data for scenario planning / analysis. It is used only by the Finance department.
  • Availability of multiple segments for needed reporting functionality
  • Allocation module for automation of transactions
  • Free-form nature of MIP to design things as needed for your organization
  • It's not user-friendly. Could use a major user-interface overhaul
  • Learning curve is high.
  • MIP suggests using an outside app, Drillpoint, for its reporting. Its own reporting should be sufficient, but it is not.
  • The open-ended nature of MIP can lead to mistakes, such as reports not being designed properly, or leaving data out of reports.
MIP Fund Accounting is good for basic accounting transactions. MIP segments allow for a wide variety of reporting options. MIP's allocation module is great for automating some journal entries. MIP is not user friendly, has a high learning curve, is not good for reporting, and can create issues with its lack of pre-defined reports.

Currently, our organization use MIP fund Accounting for all our accounting and financial management needs. This product addresses needs such as managing fixed assets, the ability to report in multicurrency, and budgeting. For example, our organization is operated on an approved work plan and budget, and the budget module enables us to monitor our spending and produce reports such as variance analysis to assist in our forecasting, planning, and decision-making. In addition, this fund accounting software affords us the opportunity to manage several projects at the same time and enables us to produce on demand reports and random onsite inspections by our donors. Over the last year we have been comprehensively reviewed by one of our donor partners an they were impressed with our reporting as well as the scope of the current financial system.
  • Fixed Assets Management.
  • Accounts receivables and payables.
  • Budgeting
  • Reporting
  • Budget vs Variance Analysis
  • It can become more user friendly.
  • The closing of fiscal year can be complicated.
  • Bank reconciliation feature can be simplified for ease of use.
  • More flexibility can be given in terms of expansion of characters in some fields
MIP Fund Accounting is well suited in the following ways: The ability to use the budgets module enables better planning, implementation, and monitoring of our various activities during the fiscal year. The Multicurrency module allows us to meet the requirements of our various donors who may request that reports be submitted to them in different currencies. In my opinion, MIP Fund Accounting may be less appropriate in the following ways: This software is most suitable for medium to large organizations with complex functions in order to utilize various modules adequately. There are a lot of small organizations that can utilize all or most of what this software offers. However, the cost can be a major factor when considering acquiring this software.

Abilia is currently being used by the business department for all accounting needs. It helps organize grants and allows us the ability to process transactions, run financials, and all other accounting and finance functions. We use fund accounting, and Abilia is great for keeping all of our funds and funding sources separated.
  • Running Reports, it is simple and easy to run historic documents.
  • Fixed Assets, the module is very easy to use and keep track of assets.
  • Composition, all modules being in one place is a great feature.
  • Integrating with 3rd party applications
  • Being able to highlight, copy, and paste straight out of MIP. Not being able to do this is frustrating.
  • HR being in a different module, should be all together in my opinion.
  • Importing function could be a little quicker.
  • Modern UI functionality could be improved
Based on what I remember from our old software, MIP has been a huge upgrade and saves an immense amount of time. The company I work for uses fund accounting. We have different databases all of which are accessible through the main sign in screen. This saves an incredible amount of time when reporting.

We are a non-profit administering mostly government grants. We use it for tracking payroll and other expenses, and creating invoices to expend grant funding and financial reports for our board of directors.
  • Financial Reports
  • General Ledger Accounting
  • Decent user support
  • HR Module - need to format more timesheets for hourly employees to enter actual ins and outs as California law is now requiring this.
  • More intuitive menus
  • Easier ways to correct errors
We use MIP because we have used it for a long time and it is tailored for non-profits. However, the main accounting product is based on old technology and the add on modules are limited in how they work due them having to interact with old technology. I wish for a way to streamline how MIP functions that isn't based on old non-intuitive technology.

We use MIP Fund Accounting for AR, AP, Encumbrance, PO's, and Payroll and HR. I have worked with other accounting software, but MIP is my favorite. It is very user friendly. I have recently added the bank reconciliation module and I've very happy with, that saves me hours of work. I would definitely recommend.
  • Automatic Bank Reconciliation
  • HR
  • Payroll
  • Reporting module could be easier to work with
  • Fixed Assets
I think the AP side is very well suited. It's easy to work with and I like the fact that I can add attachments (copy of the invoice) if I want. It makes it a little easier come audit time.

We use MIP Fund Accounting to manage our local HRA and also our company, which is an economic development organization. We use it for AP, AR, GL, fixed assets, etc. MIP is able to provide the level of detail that we need and that our Boards need to make smart decisions for our companies. We are able to get accurate and complete reports and edit them to show the information we need.
  • Able to provide true fund accounting.
  • Excellent reporting options.
  • Manage our fixed assets.
  • Would like to see all the same options in the cloud module that are in the original module and vice versa.
  • A/R is a bit clumsy, too many steps.
I tried a couple of other funds accounting software, and we had staff that was familiar with MIP. I then chose MIP for both companies. I know we get accurate information out of MIP as long as the information put in is good. MIP is a little clumsy for AR billing, but maybe it would be easier to use if it was available in the cloud module (or if it is, I haven't been able to see it).

We use MIP Fund Accounting's GL, A/P, bank recs, budgeting, and reporting. We process employee reimbursements using the EFT module and are looking at doing this for some of our key vendors. The GL is easy to use and there is the save entry feature, which is nice because I have a lot of monthly entries that I don't have to key in all the time. I also like the reverse and copy option in the GL as well as it saves time. We run monthly revenue and expenditure reports for our budget leaders to manage their projects, making sure their projects are spending the way they should.
  • GL format is easy to enter in.
  • System is user-friendly.
  • You are able to drill down to transaction level.
  • Reporting could be more robust.
  • Encumbrance could be easier to use.
  • No workflow for invoice approval.
MIP Fund Accounting is a good system for the most part, but it lacks in reporting.

We use MIP Fund Accounting for Payroll, Human Resources, and Accounting. In Accounting - my area - we use it for Accounts Payable, partial Accounts Receivable (only non-patient A/R), Cash and Bank Reconciliations, Full GL, Financial Statements, and Budget. We have 3 people working the PR and HR side and 3 people working the Accounting side, so our team is not too large.
  • General Ledger processing, including journal entries and reports
  • Ability to download all reports directly to Excel and PDF formats
  • Use of Grant codes to enable grant reporting by month/quarter/year
  • Ability to have multiple departments and consolidate into groups for reporting
  • Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable cannot be out of balance
  • Multiple ways to use the product including Cloud and Classic options, Visual menu or Standard (Top of screen) menus to select processes, many options we are not using in our simple organization
  • Chart of Accounts: there is no option to merge or renumber accounts. For instance, once you set up an account in the current asset section, i.e. 1200 Savings account, you cannot change the number or merge it into an LT asset, i.e. 1800 LT Savings
  • Set up: We are locked into the original implementation scenario of multiple Fund numbers (we use only 1) a location code (we use only 1) and a responsibility code (we use only 1) so our account combinations need to start with 1, then GL, Dept, and Grant, then 0 and then 0000 to be complete. So instead of 6000-2010-1000, we need to indicate 1-6000-2010-1000-0-0000
  • After 10+ years we have a lot of GL account numbers, Departments, and Grants which are either I=inactive or D=discontinued and we have to continuously filter them out of our reports such as vendor list, chart of accounts, etc.
  • The aging reports for AR and AP are a nightmare and cannot be trusted
  • You can set up reports that do not balance, i.e. combining reports that do not include all departments because you did not update the filter or options on the report.
  • The training is costly in my opinion. Once you get through the training, you have good takeaways to save time and understand your options, but the cost is an issue. The year that a "season pass" was offered for all the training you could handle was the best! There were all sorts of shortcuts I would not have known about.
  • The training also has the downside of starting with the system implementation and moving forward. Some of this early stuff is truly NA when your system has been in place.
If you want to use grant reporting and departmental reporting, this product works very well. It works well with basic accounting tasks and reports other than aging. It has a good amount of internal integrity, i.e. you cannot have a difference between your AR sub ledger and the AR general ledger account. This is a great product if you are well skilled in using Excel to convert text to data, create pivot tables and manipulate report presentations. With the cloud version, you have access to a "classic" view that mirrors the former product and a new "online" version which is sometimes easier to use and more visually accessible in some screens.

I use it to enter various transactions and reports. The A/P Module is the one I use the most. Using MIP Fund Accounting to do check runs is very convenient for me. I also love the layout: The drop-down menus, the road map/flow chart, and the modules on the left side make MIP Fund Accounting user-friendly. I also like the options for reporting and charts. The charts make our finances easier to understand. This is some of the best software I've ever used! When I come to work, MIP Fund Accounting is the FIRST program I open. I ALWAYS look forward to using MIP Fund Accounting. Every time I use it, I feel like I'm being spoiled!
  • Being able to access Entering Invoices from the menus and modules.
  • Having the related tasks in the gray boxes and in different modules.
  • Having the road map set up in sequence so you know what to do next, so no guessing.
  • The Process Manager Window for reports.
  • Maybe the choice to enlarge the font and icons, but it's no big deal.
I can't think of any scenario where MIP Fund Accounting would not be suited.
